You missed it. Even though the OP may've presented it wrong, it's not about vulgar language, it's about being called rude and vulgar things. Totally different than "just sum cus words lol".

Well, being an Anglo-Saxon guy myself I feel it is my right to use the Earthy language of my forefathers!

I'm sorry, but have you read through the thread? Or even the OP?
The guy was harassing him. It doesn't matter whether he used perfect grammar, spelling, and punctuation or had vulgarity coming out of his rear. He blatantly broke the rules and wasn't punished. Insulting someone and suggesting they do things with their mother that a decent part of the world deems illegal is just not the done thing to do.

I have zero problems cursing you*, your mom, your dog, your best friend, your best friend's cousin on his step-father's side or anyone else out, but I'm not going to whisper someone like that because I think they may have done something.
He was in the wrong and deserves to be punished.

*You in general, not specifically you.

I am of the opinion of, why bother. Anet makes the rules, threatens punishment but does nothing. The only time Anet does ANYTHING in reguards to banning is if it hinders the game economy.

The EAU clearly states that you are not to swear, and so forth, yet I see people in towns acting like sailors. Actually, I know a few sailors who would be offended by that language.

Acting like the offenders isn't the right thing to do, but neither is Anet.
They get their money, and deal with the economy, Frell the rest of the EUA. Just as long as they get the cash and all.

That's my 3 cents. This is Walter Cronkite, saying good night and god bless!

I'm from Scotland and I'm already smarter than you could even comprehend. It's funny how you look at one end of the scale yet disregard the other end as "children". Some religions won't let you swear and truly intelligent people can talk WITHOUT SWEARING! WOW! LEGENDS OF MYTH! Once again, idiots who think swearing is acceptable at any time and any environment = immature. Still, it's your choice to believe me now before you get a metaphorical or literal backhander.

Hm. This will get things done. Flame a flamer, then add your signiture, and then edit to flame another person. That very much amuses me. I see little reason that you should have an account on these forums, the way you post in many threads.

ANYWAY

To get on topic. Yes, the chat system filter, and the ignore list are there for reasons. Since people these days, especially young children see the need to act older (which decodes to using what some people take as offensive language to a disgusting point of a vulgar word every three words) you will find often the situation of a flame war going on in local chat or provate messaging. Arenanet cannot stop said ignorant people from playing the game, however.

Use your ignore list and your chat filter if mere words offend you. That's all there is to it.

Hmmm, well I managed to get myself banned for inapropriate language for 71 hours. But I was being very very bad on purpose anyway.

Although is it really fair that I actually got banned for replying to people calling me a noob for my skill bar in RA? All insults were thrown back at people whispering me in the first place, so meh, back to Oblivion for 3 days.

Most would probably say that you should've been more mature or ignored them in the first place.

It was today that we lost a game in RA. The mesmer in our team decided to flame us all. I whisped him asking how i was expected to save him from an SP spike while i was sitting on the floor thanks to 2 signet spikers. He kept flaming me and everytime i /ignored he proceeded to change between FOUR accounts.

The cap is an issue, no doubt.

It seems to me that the OP's issue was not so much the language but the fact he got this abuse for no good reason.
